Survivor Thrivers: Breast Cancer Survivors

Who we are:

The Survivor-Thrivers are a Dragon boat team of Breast Cancer Survivors based in Cobourg Ontario. Our goal is to send a message of Hope and Support to persons living with Breast Cancer.

Mission Statement:

Our spirited dragon boat team believes there is life after breast cancer. Our goal is to survice, to thrive and to have fun as we promote breast cancer awareness.

We increase public awareness of breast cancer.

We provide evidence, by our enjoyment and hard work at the sport of paddling, that there is life after Cancer.

We provide financial and emotional support to team members and their families who are experiencing problems related to their cancer.

We improve the physical and emotional health of all our team members by exercise and supportive camaraderie at practices, races and group meetings.

We raise funds to help support our team.

We increase national awareness of our dragon team and its needs as breast survivors by communicating with other brease cancer survivor teams.

We compete in Dragon Boat festivals where profits are given to various charities.

In Vancouver, in 1996 Dr McKenzie launched "Abreast in a Boat", a Dragon Boat team who had survived breast cancer. Since then, in excess of 30 Dragon Boat teams of breast cancer surviviors have sprung up in New Zealand, Australia, USA and all accross Canada.

Cobourg's Survivor Thrivers were established in Spring of 1999.
