Minutes of the HARC meeting Sunday March 9, 2008

Meeting called to order by Don VE3UNA at 7:15 pm. There were 5 Hams and 1 SWL present.

Minutes from Feb10th meeting. Read by Doug VE3BKR. Motion by Bill VA3ET to Accept as read. Carried.

A request for radio support for the Waumer walk for ALS was read. The club also has been asked for radio support for the MS walkathon. The club decided to support both walkathons and will need help for both events.

Minutes from Decemebr 9 meeting. This was our Christmas meeting no business was conducted.

Discussion were held on antenna design, Echo link, APRS. Jamie VE3RSJ gave some details on the emergency power supply hookup at repeater site.

What is a Sideband Slicer? And what is it used for. Any one have an idea.

Meeting called to order by President Brian VE3RPQ at 7:05 pm.

There were 6 Hams and 1 SWL present.

This was our Christmas meeting with a chat on new radios and some of the differences to older radios that most of us are using. Some radio problems were discussed with possible solutions to help. Lots of treats were enjoyed and a great social hour.

Meeting called to order by President Brian VE3RPQ at 7:00 pm. There were 10 hams and 1 SWL present.

Minutes read from Oct 14th meeting. Moved by Brian VE3RPQ the minutes be accepted as read . Seconded by Bill VA3ET Minutes accepted.

Jamie VE3RSJ and DON VE3TLZ brought the supplies to instruct us all on how to build some roll up "J" pole antennas. All went well with some trials and errors and some cutting and soldering and lots of checking with the analyzer finally most antennas came into speck centering the frequency at 146.00. We are all now a little closer to being ready for emergencies

Club met 6:30 pm for a road trip to the repeater site. Jamie VE3RSJ gave all present a great tour and explanation of the repeater site.

Meeting called to order by President Brian VE3RPQ at 7:25 pm. There were 9 hams and 1 SWL present.

Minutes read from Sept 9th meeting. Moved by Brian VE3RPQ the minutes be excepted as read . Seconded by Doug VE3BKR Minutes accepted.

Jamie gave report about Red Cross contact. Red Cross requested we all have CB Radios so we can talk to truckers if there is a problem on the 401.

Safety Vests for club functions are available. Talk to Jamie VE3RSJ if you need them.

Don VE3UNA showed his version of an emergency kit.

The next meeting we are to build some roll up "J" pole antennas.

Meeting called to order by president Brian VE3RPQ 7:15pm

Minutes read from June 10 meeting Moved by Dave VA3DCB seconded by Jamie VE3RSJ Minutes excepted.

Talk about OCGAP explaining there function and criteria to join by Brian Talk about Safety Vest for club functions.

Jamie spoke about weather spots on the internet and the program available to run this function.

Don Suggested we all put together are own version of an emergency kit and bring it to the next meeting and we and all decide on with one is most useful so we can all adjust are kits to be ready if we are needed.

Jamie to send letter to RED CROSS about how we may be able to help them.

Letter for Harold VE3HTV read and accepted with regrets.

Don VE3UNA to assume duties of secretary/treasure in the interim till a new one is found.

Minutes of the HARC meeting Sunday June 10, 2007

Brian VE3RPQ called the meeting to order at 7:00pm.

Paul Armour ( SWL ) from Peterborough was introduced to the club members and was thanked for coming down to the Sunday meeting.

Harold VE3HTV read the minutes of the last meeting and was accepted by Doug VE3BKR.

Harold VE3HTV gave out the financial report to the members stating no changes have been made to report, it was then accepted by Brian VE3RPQ. Harold also reported that the Club dues for next year (Sept 2007 / Sept 2008) were set at twenty dollars ( $20.00 ) and a posting of that would be placed on the Clubs web site.

Rick VA3ARD the Clubs Net Controller for Monday night net calls reported that there has been a good turn out for the NET and hope that it would continue throughout the summer.

Jamie VE3RSJ had talked about safety issues during walk-a-thons or any other event that might take place and felt that bright coloured vest could be worn by members providing communication on such occasions. He would look into the cost of the items of which Glen (SWL) suggested that another alternative to vest could be a bright colored hats.Later Jamie gave a brief outline on the Club's generator which could be used in an event of a power failure to keep power to the repeater site to insure that communications was kept up and running in an event of an emergency. Members were then given out instuction Link Sheets and codes ( CODE NUMBERS ARE NOT TO BE READ ON AIR ) on how to open and close various links on the repeater. A dicussion took place about using the repeater and reports that were to be given by Ham Operators during severe weather conditions.

Brian VE3RPQ informed members that the Club would break for July and August and would commence in September with nominations for the Clubs excutive positions and elections in November. The Club would meet again at the Baltimore Fire Department on Sunday Septemeber 9, 2007 at 7:00 PM. A motion was then made to adjourn the meeting and was seconded by Dave VA3DCB.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:15pm.

Minutes of the HARC meeting Sunday May 13, 2007

Brian VE3RPQ called the meeting to order at 7:00pm.

Harold VE3HTV gave the treasurers report a motion from the floor by Jamie VE3RSJ that the report be accepted and it was seconded by Rick VA3ARD. Harold also informed members that a thank-you letter was sent to the Mayor and Council of Hamiltion Township along with a letter to the Baltimore Fire Chief thanking them for the use of the Fire Hall room for the Radio club meetings.

Richard Mutton VE3ERM from Castleton was introduced to the various club members.

Rick VA3ARD gave a short talk about the Monday night Net Call it is hoped that more amateur would check in to the NET so he would accept checkins prior to the Net Times and shortly after.

Jamie VE3RSJ informed the Club members that the town of Cobourg would hold another emergency day in November. Jamie had stated that "The Club should be prepared to show off there skills in emergency communications when called upon to do so."

Don VE3UNA had thanked the Club members who helped out in the local Waumer Walk and had presented a small gift in appreciation for their assistance. Members who participated in the walk-a-thon had talked about the safety issues and Jamie had mentioned about safety vest for members to wear during such events. Aside from the walk Don had complimented Harold for the work done on the Club's web page.

Brian VE3RPQ had read an article out of the local paper about the communications of the local fire department and how they had difficulties in communicating in some areas of the county during an emergency situation.

Harold VE3HTV showed and explained on a computer to the members how to navigate the Clubs web page.

After the computer demonstations Barrie Coleman VE3AAR had dropped into the Club meeting much to the delight of all present. Members were informed for those that did not know Barrie that he was 90 years "young" . A question and answer period took place as Barrie related to some of his early days in Ham radio which started out back in 1935 . Barrie had recalled back then one made all their own equipment . We all look forward to Barrie's next visit to our June meeting I am sure by then more questions will be asked of him and his experiences as a Ham radio operator.

The next Club meeting will be held on Sunday June 10 , at 7:00pm at the Balitmore Fire Dept. Ham radio operators along with shortwave listeners and general public are cordially invited to come to our meetings and join our Club if they so desire.

Waumer Walk For ALS ( April 29, 2007 )

Sunday April 29th seen well over 500 people attend the Waumer Walk here in Cobourg. The walk started off from Victoria Park and wound its way around the streets south of King street in town. Members from the Heritage Amateur Radio Club supplied the communications at certain areas set out on the route by Don VE3UNA. Not only was each point along the route manned by a Radio Operator but Jamie - VE3RSJ along with his daughter walked the route. Main base ( VE3HRC ) setup was in the park and operated by Rick VA3ARD and John VA3KOY. Manning various other points along the route to ensure the safety of all the walkers were Bill -VA3ET, Doug -VE3BKR , Don - VE3UNA and Harold - VE3HTV.

Minutes of the HARC meeting Sunday April 15, 2007

Bill VA3ET opened the meeting at 7:00pm.

Harold VE3HTV gave the treasurers report a motion from the floor by Doug VE3BKR that the report be accepted and it was seconded by Rick VA3ARD.

Don VE3UNA talked about the MS walk-a-thon which was held in town also about some input into bringing ideas for various club meetings. Also mentioned was volunteers were needed for the up coming Waumer Walk .

Suggestion for coming meetings were a Computer demonstation of surfing the Clubs Web page, a talk on J-pole construction with a workshop planned later on. Time and place to be announced.

A letter is to be sent to the Hamilton Township Council and Fire Chief thanking them for the use of the room at the fire hall for Club meetings.

Phone patch and repeater codes were talked about as well as making a list of Club members and their phone numbers.

Bill VA3ET announced that he was stepping down as Chairperson and Brian VE3RPQ had volunteered to take over the position.

Glen MacLean ( SWL) was thanked for opening the doors of the meeting room and brewing a delicious cup of coffee and some nice treats.

It was decided that the following months would be the clubs meeting times April, May, June, Sept, Oct., Nov., and December. With a break in July & August.

Two large tins of coffee were donated to the Baltimore Fire Department from one of the Club members.

The next Club meeting will be on Sunday May 13, 2007 at 7:00pm at the Baltimore Fire Dept.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:35pm.

Highlights of the MS walk-a-thon ( April 15, 2007 )

The 2007 Cobourg - Port Hope Super Cities Walk for MS took place on Sunday April 15th. The day was cold and rainy and presented quite a challenge for some 200 walkers who took part in the walk which was broken down to a 5 km route and a 10 km route. Don VE3UNA organized the communications and had Rick VA3ARD operating the base in the local High School while various Ham operators manned the check points throughout the course. Those helping out and overseeing that the event ran smoothly were Bill VA3ET, John VA3KOY, Doug VE3BKR, Jamie VE3RSJ, Dave VA3DCB and Harold VE3HTV. Well over $64,000.00 in pledges were raised for the day.

Minutes of the HARC meeting Sunday Dec. 10, 2006

Bill VA3ET opened the meeting.

Rick VA3ARD.. gave a report on the Emergency plan set out for area ham radio operators if called upon to provide communications in the event of a local disaster.

Bill VA3ET…had commented that people should notify Industries Canada if they know of a silent key , so that they are able to keep their records up to date.

Doug VE3BKR…gave the treasurers report and handed the report and job over to Harold VE3HTV.

John VA3KOY…informed the Club that he has a portable tower which he offered the Club could use at their disposal if necessary.

A round table discussion took place and it is hoped that a field day could be in the works for the coming year if enough people were interested.

Bill VA3ET ended the meeting by informing the members that the Club would not meet in Jan, Feb or March. The first meeting of 2007 would be held in April a date would be forth coming so as not to conflict with Easter.

Minutes of the HARC meeting Sunday November 12, 2006

There were two special guest at our Club Meeting on Sunday November 12, 2006. Leanne Latter from the Emergency Planner for the town of Cobourg and the Fire Chief of Cobourg Allen Mann. As a requirement by the Provincial Government each town must have an emergency plan in lace.Communications and co-ordination were talked about. In time of an emergency our Club could be called upon as a support group to provide communications to the Municipal Emergency Control Group.

Charlie as he was fondly remember by his fellow hams was the orginal founder of the Heritage Amateur Radio Club and held the former callsign of VE3HPR.
